A major oil and gas company had a number of new-build oil rigs in the Middle East that had to be moved down through the Indian Ocean to South Africa en route to their final destination. Despite the decline in successful pirate attacks in the waters off Somalia, there was still a high level of activity and potential risk. The client was especially concerned about their security arrangements due to the value of the rigs and the need to have them operational within a certain time frame,
They engaged NYA to provide a total project management solution for two rigs, starting with a security and vulnerability assessment of each and a detailed voyage risk assessment. Following the recommendations made, NYA was involved with the selection of protective security service providers to ensure that the most appropriate solution was in place.
We also provided training for all crew and the crisis management team, and deployed two risk advisors on to the rigs to manage and coordinate security elements during the four-week voyage through the Indian Ocean.
Both arrived on time and without incident.
